Atlantic Park Gets Go-Ahead with Financing in Place

Nestled between 18th and 20th Streets lies a plot of land steeped in history and imbued with unique energy - an energy once harnessed by a visionary structure known as "The Dome." For 35 years the Dome stood as a cultural icon playing host to some of the most iconic musical acts of our time, including Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, and the Rolling Stones. But since its demolition in 1994, the site has remained a vacant parking lot, its rich history and untapped potential obscured by the mundane. That is, until now. Decades later, a transformation is underway as Atlantic Park emerges to take its place.

Led by local developer Venture Realty Group and backed by music legend and Virginia Beach native, Pharrell Williams, phase one of Atlantic Park will span three city blocks and deliver a blend of urban residential offerings, retail, a major entertainment venue, restaurants, and office spaces, creating a vibrant atmosphere that reflects the unique character of the local community. But it's the 2.67-acre surf lagoon that is set to be the development's centerpiece. Powered by Wavegarden technology, the surf lagoon will replicate natural waves, creating an authentic ocean-like experience for surfers of all levels. The first of its kind in the U.S., this state-of-the-art attraction is sure to make Atlantic Park a bucket-list destination for adventure seekers and beach lovers alike.

Beyond the surf park, the plan envisions this district as a micro-city with a strong emphasis on a well-rounded active lifestyle. Taking cues from biophilic design, the development seamlessly integrates nature back into the site. Extensive public green spaces and meticulously landscaped gardens will provide a peaceful oasis in the heart of the bustling community. The development has been thoughtfully designed to foster a sense of community and connectedness, with plazas, rooftop terraces, and outdoor recreation areas that provide ample opportunities for socializing and relaxation.

With its innovative design and community-driven approach, Atlantic Park is poised to create a new paradigm for urban design, offering a unique model for community-centered living. As construction gets underway and the site is cleared for Atlantic Park, the city is on the brink of a new era of growth and cultural renaissance, one that promises to improve not only the urban landscape but also the lives of the people who call it home. Atlantic Park represents a convergence of past and present, forging a new path for the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and cementing its place as a cultural hub for generations to come.

The future looks bright, and the possibilities (and waves) are endless.
