Jane Cady Rathbone Appointed to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors
Jane Cady Rathbone, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, Principal and CEO Emeritus, has been appointed by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. Jane was named to the four-year term on April 20, 2026, alongside three fellow Virginia Tech alumni; her term begins July 1, 2026.
The appointees were named in advance of their formal start date so they can serve on the search committee for the university's next president, succeeding Timothy Sands. The Board of Visitors is Virginia Tech's governing body, responsible for the presidential search, the budget, and the university's long-term direction.
A 1980 graduate of Virginia Tech's School of Architecture, Jane has had significant influence on the planning and design of university campuses across more than four decades of practice. Under her leadership, Hanbury became a national voice in higher education design, with work represented on more than 150 campuses across the United States and abroad.
